A 71-year-old Texas resident lost his life in a traffic accident that occurred around Palisades Reservoir on Friday, September 11. In addition, two Afton residents were transported to the Star Valley Health Emergency Room in Alpine.

According to Idaho State Police, the crash took place at 8:07 a.m. at mile post 397 near Indian Creek. A 199 Porsche Carrera, driven by a 71-year-old male from McKinney, Texas, was traveling eastbound when he crossed over the center line and collided head on with a Ram 1500 pickup. The driver of the Porsche succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. His identity has not been released by authorities.

The Ram pickup was driven by a 36-year-old male from Afton along with a 27-year-old female passenger, also from Afton. Both were transported by ambulance to Star Valley Health.  According to the Alpine Fire Department, who responded to the scene, the injuries of the Afton residents were minor.

The highway was blocked for approximately five hours to allow emergency responders to investigate the crash. Idaho State Police was assisted by Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Swan Valley Fire, Idaho Transportation Department, Alpine Fire and Star Valley Health EMS. The incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
