Idaho officials have released the name of the 71-year-old man who died in a crash on U.S. Highway 26 north of Alpine on Friday, September 11. Bonneville County Coroner Shante Sanchez identified the man as James Hanna of McKinney, Texas.

The traffic accident occurred around Palisades Reservoir at 8:07 a.m. at mile post 397 near Indian Creek. According to Idaho State Police, Hanna was driving eastbound in a 1999 Porsche Carrera when he crossed over the center line and collided head on with a Ram 1500 pickup. Hanna succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

The Ram pickup was driven by a 36-year-old male from Afton, Wyoming along with a 27-year-old female passenger, also from Afton. Both were transported by ambulance to Star Valley Health.  According to the Alpine Fire Department, who responded to the scene, the injuries of the Afton residents were minor.

ISP reports that everyone involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.

The highway was blocked for approximately five hours to allow emergency responders to investigate the crash. Idaho State Police was assisted by Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Swan Valley Fire, Idaho Transportation Department, Alpine Fire and Star Valley Health EMS.
