Maria James served up first place honors with her recipe at the Rotary Club of Star Valley Carla Stone Chili Cook-Off Saturday, June 21. The event was judged by people attending Alpine Mountain Days. Participants paid a $5 contribution to Rotary for the taste testing and judging.
Second and third place went to the Thayne Senior Center and Travis Ladner, respectively. Additional participants included First Bank of Wyoming, Four Pines Physical Therapy and the Bank of Jackson Hole.
Stephanie Cooper, incoming Rotary Club President coordinated the event.
“A huge thank you to everyone who made our annual event so special—from the talented chili cooks to our generous sponsors, and every patron who volunteered or came out to enjoy the incredible chili,” Cooper said. “We’re beyond lucky to live in such a beautiful valley, surrounded by the most amazing community.”
Cooper acknowledged the work of the club to coordinated events and work with communities such as Alpine.
“As a club whose members span the entire valley, we’re deeply committed to supporting partnerships and events throughout the region,” she explained. “We’re incredibly honored that the Town of Alpine continues to entrust us with hosting the Carla Stone Annual Chili Cook-Off. The generous donations raised from this event help fuel our many valley-wide initiatives—and as it turns out, chili in June is a delicious idea!”
Cooper formally takes over as Rotary Club of Star Valley President this summer.
“I’m honored to serve as the new President of the Rotary Club of Star Valley. My husband and I have called this beautiful valley home for over 25 years, raising our two wonderful daughters here. With the unwavering support of my family and our incredible club members, I’m excited to step into this new role. I look forward to strengthening our current partnerships and growing our service mission to reach even more corners of the valley.”
