According to information provided by the Alpine Fire Department, the AFD responded to the call of a collision between a semi truck and a pickup near the Lincoln County line on US 89 in the Snake River Canyon. A road closed notification was sent by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) at 12:44 a.m. with the road being reopened at 3:14 a.m.

“Upon arrival [we] found Star Valley Health assessing two patients, both occupants of the pickup truck,” the AFD reported via their Facebook page. “The semi had a small fire which was suppressed with an extinguisher. One patient was loaded into the SVH ambulance and was transported to St. John’s [Health] with an AFD driver. The other patient was taken to the Alpine Air Park with the AFD supplying a driver and assistant in the back of the ambulance for a Life Flight transport.”

The post stated that the highway was closed for approximately three hours with the AFD, SVH, WYDOT, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) all working the scene.

According to additional information provided by officials, the possibility of alcohol may have played a roll in the accident is part of the investigation.

The incident is still under investigation by the WHP.
