Just known as Choma to hundreds of both current and former Star Valley athletes. Kim helped manage multiple sports teams at SVHS as well as playing herself. KIM CHOMA WAS A GREAT EXAMPLE FOR US ALL –
The SVHS team utilized their annual life-a-thon to raise funds for what will be called the Kim Choma Memorial Scholarship. Coach McKay Young spoke on the efforts this past Friday on SVI Radio.
“We are still heartbroken about what happened with Choma,” he stated. “The line that I’ve used with so many people since the tragedy is, it’s our tendency as humans to kind of overdo or exaggerate how good people are and thats impossible to do with Kim. She really was as good as people said she was. She was the epitome of being selfless and kind. As long as I’m the coach here, she’s going to be honored and remembered. We’re excited to help the Choma family to start this scholarship and it’s all tax deductible. All 100% will go to the scholarship in her memory. I hope we aren’t just talking about her in the near future but 30 and 40 years from now we’d like people to know about Kim Choma. I encourage everyone in the Star Valley football family to please contribute to that.”
To contribute to this endeavor, find the Kim Choma Memorial Scholarship Fund on GoFundMe.com. As of this writing, the account has raised $2,230 of a goal of $6,500.
In terms of trying to prepare his players for life after football, Young commented on Kim’s impact on the community. “A phrase we try and use with our guys is to be a man but for others. Kim was that. She was woman built for others.”
