The Wyoming Cowboys are on the road to open the 2025 season with a matchup against the Akron Zips for the Cowboys first trip to Ohio since playing at Bowling Green in 2011.

“It is time. I’m excited to go out and see this group play and compete. We expect that we are going to have to go on the road and play well and that is the expectation we have internally. It is a big deal for us to get started.”
Wide receiver Jaylen Sargent had a breakout season in 2024. He was one of the top deep threats in the conference during MW play. He ranked second in the conference during conference play in yards per reception at 23.3 and ranked tenth in receiving yards per game in conference play at 60 per game. In final three games of conference play, he had 317 yards receiving and recorded six catches of 30 or more yards with two touchdowns.
The Cowboy defense finished last season as the nation’s top unit of third down holding opponents to 25.9 percent. The unit also held Boise State and Washington State to 31 combined points in the final two games including holding WSU to under 300 yards of total offense.Wyoming made the 1,329-mile trip to Akron on Wednesday in preparation for Thursday evening’s game. The Pokes last contest in Ohio saw Wyoming earn a 28-27 win over Bowling Green. Gabe Knapton and Josh Biezuns blocked the potential game-tying PAT with less than 3 seconds remaining to give Wyoming the win.
