The Wyoming Cowboys welcome an old rival to War Memorial Stadium on Saturday hosting No. 20 Utah in a 6 p.m. start. It is the 84th meeting between the two schools and the first since 2010.

Notes on the Contest
Hosting an Old Rival: The Wyoming Cowboys will welcome a familiar face into War Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening hosting Utah. It marks the 84th meeting between the two schools and the first since the 2010 season and the 41st meeting in Laramie. The Pokes last win against the Utes came in 2006, as UW won 31-15 in Laramie.
In The First Two Games: The Cowboys have allowed only seven points through the first two games this season. That is the fewest points UW has allowed through two games since the Cowboys allowed only six points in the first two contest against Air Force and Arizona State during the 1966 season.
Defending The Pass: Wyoming has not allowed 200 or more passing yards in any of its last six games, the longest active streak by any FBS team. The last longer such streak by a MW team was a seven-game streak by Air Force from November 2022 to September 2023.
Getting It Done on the Ground: The Pokes got it done on the ground against Northern Iowa. The Wyoming offense was paced by a trio of running backs that rushed for over 50 yards each. Terron Kellman recorded a career-high 87 yards on seven carries for 12.4 yards per rush. Samuel “Tote” Harris added 61 yards with a score for a career-best in both. Sam Scott added 58 rushing yards with a score.
Chunk Plays: The Cowboys recorded 10 plays of 15 or more yards and in all had 13 rushes of 10 or more yards. Terron Kellman powered those stats with 71 of his 87 rushing yards coming on three plays. He finished the game adding 12.4 rushing yards per carry.
A Note on the Defense: The Cowboys allowed only 199 yards of total offense per game through the first two games and held Northern Iowa to 170 total yards on the day. The Pokes rank seventh in the nation in total defense and rank second in the nation in scoring defense at 3.5 per game.
Against The Run: The Pokes held Northern Iowa to under 100 yards rushing on Saturday and have held both opponents this season to under 100 yards and are allowing 74 yards on the ground per game this season. That number ranks No. 17 in the nation this season.
Big Ben: Nose tackle Ben Florentine is off to a strong start in his senior season. He leads the Cowboys with two sacks on the season. He has a sack in each of the last three games dating back to last season. He is the first interior defensive lineman to do so since John Fletcher did so for the Cowboys during the 2009 season. He ranks No. 23 in the nation and fourth in the conference in sacks this season.
Like a Boss: Cornerback Tyrese Boss is off to a strong start this season. He is second on the Cowboys in tackle at 5.0 per game. He also has two pass breakups on the season to tie for the team lead. He had a career-high six tackles against Northern Iowa, which five were credited as solo stops.
J-Mike Back in his Groove: Tight end John Michael Gyllenborg has found his groove as he tied a career-high with five catches for 65 yards to lead the team against Northern Iowa. It marked the 12th game of his career that the tight end has caught three or more passes in a game. He is the Cowboys active leader in receptions with 64 catches for 890 yards. He was on the Preseason John Mackey Award Watch List.
About Utah: The Utes moved up five spots to No. 20 in the Associated Press poll and are No. 21 in the Coaches Poll after dominating Cal Poly 63-9 last Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Utah opened the season with a 43-10 victory over UCLA at the Rose Bowl. This is the first time the program has posted 40-plus points in back-to-back games since 2022.
Quarterback Devon Dampier, a New Mexico transfer, has completed 79.2 percent of his passes for 398 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. He is also tied for the team lead in rushing with running back Wayshawn Parker with both players averaging 56.0 yards on the ground through two games. Ryan Davis leads the team in receiving yards with 80. Justin Stevenson, who transferred from Wyoming to Utah, does not have a catch.
The Utes held Cal Poly without an offensive touchdown while totaling nine tackles for loss and seven passes defended (five breakups, two interceptions). Safety Jackson Bennee returned his interception for a touchdown in the first quarter, extending the Utes’ FBS record streak of 22 consecutive seasons with a pick-six (since 2004).
