Superintendent Matt Erickson from Lincoln County School District #2 stepped into the SVI Radio studio on Tuesday, December 23 for his monthly report. Superintendent Erickson provided a brief update as the district heads into the Christmas break.

(0:00) Monthly report from Lincoln County School District number two, Superintendent Matt Erickson. (0:04) Superintendent, good morning. Merry Christmas to you.

Good morning and Merry Christmas to you, (0:08) Duke. I appreciate your time as always. A lot of buzz in the schools this morning.

I’m sure a (0:14) little half day before Christmas Eve. Boy, there is a lot of buzz and there’s a lot of excited kids, (0:19) especially at the elementary level. So we very much appreciate that.

It’s crazy that we’re (0:24) coming to the end of a calendar year. Just like that. Yeah, just like that.

Well, as we head into (0:34) this year, of course, we go into the break. And you know, there’s a lot of people that make the (0:39) schools tick and make the schools work behind the scenes. There absolutely are.

And maybe a lot of (0:45) unsung heroes, per se, or guys and gals behind the scenes. But I’d just like to wish Merry Christmas (0:52) and give a shout out to our amazing custodians and maintenance guys and mechanics and bus drivers (1:00) and food service workers. Sometimes people don’t realize how instrumental they are and how vital (1:07) they are to our organization.

And we always have a clean and orderly learning environment for (1:15) students and staff and the temperatures just right. And, you know, the buses are rolling and (1:23) on time to school and get home safely and good meals and they’re nutritious and balanced. And (1:33) we just appreciate all of those unsung heroes in our organization.

There’s a lot of people that (1:38) just have to do their job every day for things to just continue to run like that. You know, (1:42) it’s amazing when each of us fulfill our role, it clicks along and we meet our mission and vision (1:49) and students find success at the next level and they’re prepared for life. (1:54) Absolutely.

Superintendent Matt Erickson in studio this morning from LCSD number two. (1:58) What else is going on in the district this time? (2:00) So, Duke, I just reported earlier this week, yesterday, in fact, we got our (2:09) accreditation final report back and we scored very, very well. Obviously, there’s some things (2:14) for us to be thinking about and revisit and reflect on as well.

It’s all about continuous (2:22) improvement. So, we’ll be making a report to in our next school board meeting mid-January. (2:29) And then also, you know, we’re six weeks or so out from the legislative session kicking off.

(2:38) Had the privilege of meeting with Representative Erickson and Senator Dockstader yesterday (2:43) for a couple of hours. And we sure appreciate those guys and all their efforts to help and (2:49) assist. They’re definitely assets to our community and to our state.

We’re thankful for that. (2:55) And then our school board, you know, a lot of people maybe wonder what a school board member (3:01) does, but we’ve got training. They’ve got two days worth of training scheduled (3:07) towards the end of January as well.

So, we got a national trainer that’s coming in and (3:13) going to work with the admin team as well as the school board. So, just a lot of good things (3:18) happening and we’re grateful that we’ve been blessed with safety in our schools and things (3:26) are clicking along pretty good. Winter sports seasons are off and running.

Indoor track will (3:32) kick off as soon as the break’s over. Just a lot of good things happening and just a great (3:40) community to be a part of. No doubt.

That’s Superintendent Matt Erickson this morning, (3:43) Lake County School District number two in studio. Superintendent, appreciate the report. Of course, (3:48) heading into the Christmas season and anything we missed.

Just Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays (3:55) to all the listeners out there. We appreciate the parents and students and get a lot of games (4:01) of Monopoly and sleep in and eat a bunch of junk food and make it a memorable Christmas. (4:09) Sounds fantastic to me.

Sounds fantastic. That’s Superintendent Erickson this morning. (4:14) It is the Weekday Wake Up on SVI Radio.
