Wyoming residents still have one month left to apply for additional property tax relief. The Wyoming Property Tax Refund Program includes a refund of up to 75% of the prior year’s property tax and has a filing deadline of June 1.

“This money comes from the state coffers,” explained Lincoln County Treasurer Jerry Greenfield during an interview on SVI Radio. “It comes directly from the state to you and it’s up to 75% of what you’ve already paid for.”

Treasurer Greenfield explained that to qualify an applicant needs to own the home, have paid 2025 property taxes, have been a Wyoming resident for the past five years and occupied the residence for no less than 9 months of the year. Also, in order to receive the full benefit, the household income should be equal to or less than 145% of the median household income for the county, which is $141,100 in Lincoln County.

In the 2026 Budget Session, the Wyoming Legislature accepted the Governor’s recommendation of $12 million for property tax relief targeted to lower-income homeowners. Generally, this includes Wyoming residents who make 145% or less of the median household income in their county or the statewide median household income, whichever is greater. DOR estimates that the average statewide refund amount for the 2025 tax year will be $771.35. However, this amount will vary by county and specific amounts for each county can be found on DOR’s website.

“The refund program is a strong example of targeted and responsible property tax relief,” said Wyoming Governor Gordon. “We are putting money back on the kitchen table for folks who need it. If you are eligible, I encourage you to sign up.”

Applications can be picked up from the county offices in both Afton and Kemmerer or can be filled out online at wptrs.wyo.gov. Refund checks will be mailed no later than September 30.

Treasurer Greenfield also mentioned a deadline of May 25 to file for the Long-term Property Tax Refund, which is 50%, and has to be filed through the county assessor’s office. Anyone with questions on either program can contact the Lincoln County Treasurer’s Office at (307) 855-0017.
