RIVERTON (WNE) — A 33-year-old Lander man was arrested on charges alleging he roared through a red light Wednesday night in Riverton while driving drunk and crashed into another passenger vehicle, killing the two occupants.
Michael Odom is facing charges of driving while intoxicated and vehicular homicide, according to Riverton Police Chief Eric Hurtado.
The crash was reported at about 8:15 p.m. on North Federal Boulevard and Webbwood Road. The scene there was chaotic: A crumpled white pickup lay on its side along the roadway, reportedly driven by Odom, and another black vehicle that showed signs of a serious impact.
Hurtado reported that one occupant of the black vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to the emergency room and died there a short time later.
Odom had to be “extricated” from the white truck, Hurtado reported, when first responders noticed signs of intoxication. “[He] started fighting with the officers and took off. There was a foot pursuit,” the chief explained of arresting Odom. “He was apprehended after he got tased.”
Names of the victims have not been released. Hurtado said investigators will work to reconstruct the crash to help determine how fast Odom was driving when he allegedly blew through the red light and crashed into the other car.
