The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an Alpine woman who’s body was found near Wapiti Village on Highway 89.

Sheriff Shane Johnson said Rita “Jamie” Gerondakis, 70, was found next to the road at 114850 Highway 89 on Friday, July 10. Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 12:40 p.m.

“Gerondakis has been clearly deceased for some period of time and no life saving measures could be taken,” stated Sheriff Johnson. “The Lincoln County Corner’s Office responded to take possession of Gerondakis and make proper notifications.”

Sheriff Johnson clarified that while the investigation is ongoing, Gerondakis appears to have died as the result of a medical event.
