The Town of Alpine has secured a $1,077,000 Mineral Royalty Grant (MRG) to fund major upgrades to Well No. 4. The State Loan and Investment Board voted unanimously to approve the funding on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The grant covers exactly 50 percent of the total $2,154,000 project cost.

The Well No. 4 Improvement Project will dramatically increase the town’s water system redundancy.

Alpine acquired Well No. 4 in 2018, and initial testing revealed a massive production potential of 2,500 gallons per minute (gpm). While the town’s existing Wells No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 sit south of the Snake River, upgrading Well No. 4 provides a vital, reliable water source north of the river.

The project aligns with the 2025 Wyoming Water Development Commission (WWDC) Alpine Water Supply Level I Master Plan, which ranked this project as the town’s second-highest priority.

The top-ranked priority—connecting the Well No. 4 system to the main infrastructure—is already underway in the design phase.

The newly approved state funding will allow Well No. 4 to operate at its full capacity through three key upgrades:

• Production Boost: Workers will replace the current pump with a larger unit to increase output from 450 gpm to 1,200 gpm.

• Network Integration: The town will upsize bottlenecked pipes and add new lines to optimize flow from the well to storage tanks.

• System Resiliency: Crews will install a dedicated backup generator to ensure continuous water operation during power outages.

“The Town of Alpine is deeply appreciative of the State Loan and Investment Board’s support,” Mayor Green said. “Expanding the water system’s capacity will ensure the long-term resiliency and prosperity of the community for decades to come.”
