The Alpine Fire Department (AFD), along with the Idaho State Police and the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an accident involving a truck and another vehicle towing a boat on Monday morning.

Initial reports indicated that there were injuries on the scene. Upon arrival, crews determined the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

According to the APD, the call came in at 10:59 a.m. for a crash on US 26 north of Alpine at mile post 401. Alpine Fire responded with two units and a total of four firemen who blocked traffic while responding entities worked the scene.

The collision involved a pickup truck, which was sideways blocking the road, and an SUV towing a trailer and boat. The boat and trailer became separated during the collision.

This accident was the latest in what has been a very busy July for area first responders. Dave Walters with the Alpine Fire Department stated that just on the Fourth of July alone they responded to “five or six” calls in a row which included the plane crash that claimed the life of a California pilot.

In addition, Alpine saw an increase in traffic due to the Teton Pass slide and while that has since been resolved, it resulted in an additional burden on emergency services.

“We were able to clean up the accident and get traffic flowing again pretty fast,” Walters added. “We just encourage everyone to be safe out there with the increased traffic.”
