Alpine’s winter trails offer adventure and community events for all ages

As winter blankets Star Valley, Alpine is gearing up for an exciting season of cross-country skiing with its well-maintained trails. Alpine Trails and Pathways (ATaP) invite residents and visitors alike to experience the beauty of the snowy landscape on groomed trails that cater to skate skiing, classic XC skiing, fat biking, and snowshoeing.

ATaP has again hired Bushong Cross Country Trail Grooming this winter, ensuring that trail conditions remain optimal. Trails are groomed every Wednesday and Saturday, weather and equipment permitting. ATaP volunteers perform touch-ups using their equipment, providing trail users enjoy a smooth ride. Notably, they roll out and pack the Greys Bench to the Greys River Trail Head, with grooming scheduled to continue until March 15. Depending on weather conditions and financial support, there’s even a possibility of extending this schedule, as in previous years when grooming lasted until mid-April.

One highlighted and main fundraising event is the Coney Classic Alpine, a thrilling skijor and dog party set for February 8, 2025, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the end of County Road 100. Participants can harness to their dogs for a fun 3k race, with costumes highly encouraged! All donations collected will be split 50/50, directly supporting trail grooming initiatives and Lucky’s Humane Society.

If you cannot wait until then, ATaP will host Moonlight Ski events during the full moon in January and February, allowing skiers to enjoy the enchanting glow of moonlight on the Lakebed trails.

Thanks to a grant from Alpine Travel and Tourism, funding for this year’s grooming has received a significant boost. As ATaP President Jeremy Larsen noted, “The grant pays 70-80% of Bushong grooming costs, helping tremendously.”
