The Lincoln County Commissioners voted unanimously during their regularly scheduled commission meeting on Tuesday, September 15 to rescind fire restrictions. The decision was based on the recommendation of the Lincoln County Fire Warden, who “has determined there has been sufficient decrease in fire danger within the County to warrant the rescission of fire restrictions,” reads the resolution.

The Stage One Fire Restrictions were put into place county wide on July 14 and prohibited “any open fire or discharge of any class of fireworks” on all state and private land. Exemptions to the ban included campfires at residences or campsites within a stone or metal fire ring centered within a minimum of a 15 foot cleared radius, trash or refuse burned between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. inside containers equipped with spark arresters and charcoal fires within enclosed grills.

The resolution approved by commissioners on Tuesday lifts and removes the fire restrictions immediately.  “Please keep in mind that it’s still dry,” stated Commissioner Mel Shumway. “Regardless of the restrictions being lifted, the guidelines are still good to continue to follow.”

The Bridger-Teton National Forest lifted similar fire restrictions on September 1, due to precipitation and cooler weather. Campfires on the Bridger-Teton are still only ever allowed in designated metal fire grates.
