Four Former Cowboys Sign Free Agent Deals with NFL Teams

Rookie mini camps start in coming weeks

The National Football League draft wrapped up on Saturday and soon after, four former Wyoming Cowboys signed free agent deals with NFL teams. Offensive lineman Caden Barnett signed with the Chicago Bears, tight end John Michael Gyllenborg signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, running back Sam Scott signed with the New York Jets and tight end Evan Svoboda signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Barnett appeared in and started all 12 games at guard this season. He also spent three seasons playing tackle for the Pokes. He was the highest graded guard in the MW this season by Pro Football Focus and earned Second Team All-Mountain West honors. He recorded 80 knockdowns on the season to lead the team and was the to the Pro Football Focus Team of the Week in the ninth week of the season. Barnett played in 48 career games with 34 starts.
He played in the Hula Bowl and participated in the East-West Shrine Game in Fresco, Texas this past January.

Gyllenborg finished an outstanding career with the Brown and Gold ending his tenure with the Pokes with 80 receptions for 1,023 yards. He also added seven touchdowns for the Cowboys. Gyllenborg recorded 17 games with three or more receptions in his career.

This past season, Gyllenborg recorded 24 receptions for 217 yards with one touchdown. He added a career-high six receptions in his final career game against Hawai’i. He was named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch list twice in his career.

He participated in the Senior Bowl in January and helped lead the American team to a 17-9 win. He added a catch in the contest for six yards. He also participated in the NFL Combine in February.

Scott rushed for 408 yards last season and finished his career with 1,091. He grabbed 11 passes for a career-best 113 yards in 2025. He had 34 in his career for 264 yards. He rushed for a career-high 132 yards in the season opener against Akron. He rushed for 68 yards against Colorado State on only three carries. Also added a catch for 37 yards.
Svoboda played in all 12 games this season for the Pokes at tight end. He finished the season with 11 catches for 92 yards with one touchdown reception. He added 8.4 yards per reception on the season and had a long reception of 27 yards. He had a career day against San Jose State with four receptions for 24 yards. He played in the Hula Bowl in January.
