• Winning cook, Maria James for first place team.
The Star Valley Rotary Club Annual Chili Cook Off at Alpine Mountain Days featured winners from Alpine and Thayne Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Honors were announced for the top three positions in a list of six teams competing.
Kelly Shackleford with Sotheby’s International Realty sponsored Maria James for the first place finish.
The Thayne Senior Center with Jymme Snider and Holly Armstrong came in second.
Third went to Jim and Karen Phillips on the Four Pines Physical Therapy team.
Star Valley Rotary Club President Amy Moon reported, “We had eight great chili’s this year with a variety of flavor profiles.
‘The public started lining up at 4:15 p.m. to be able to get in and try the chili’s.”
The Rotary President noted the additional tasking judges that joined the event this year.
“There was a great turnout as nearly double the number of tasting judges came through the line this year,” she said. “We even had one unfortunate chef run out of chili before the end of tasting at 5:30 p.m.”
The top teams split a close vote. ‘The final vote count between the top three was very close as there was only a five vote difference from 1st to 3rd place,” Moon offered.
“The Rotary Club of Star Valley wants to thank not only all the brilliant chili chefs but also the public for coming out and supporting this fun event,” she concluded. “The club has a great time putting on this event and we hope everyone had a great time being a part of it.”
