At the regular board meeting for the Lincoln County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees on April 9, the resignation of board member Kade Wilkes was announced effective as of April 15. Wilkes was in the early months as a newly elected member after being elected in the fall of 2024.

According to policy, the board has 30 days to appoint someone to the position which will represent Area 1. This area encompasses the southeast portion of Afton and runs along Highway 89 and then runs west to the Idaho and Utah borders.

Coincidentally, Wilkes defeated Lenn Johnson of Cokeville in the election, who himself was appointed by the board to finish the term of Wade Hirschi who moved out of the area after many years of service.

According to Superintendent Matt Erickson, the application process will begin immediately with the interview process to follow. The LCSD No. 2 board would then select a candidate to fulfill the remainder of the term which will “short-cycle” to the fall of 2026. Erickson anticipated that the appointed candidate would be sworn in sometime between May 8 and the next regularly scheduled board meeting on May 14.

Interested candidates for the appointment can apply online at lcsd2.org starting on the afternoon of Thursday April 10, or by stopping by the LCSD No. 2 administrative offices at 360 Jefferson St. in Afton.

Anyone living in the boundaries of Area 1 are invited to apply to fill the board position.
