District 2 has long been represented by Fred Brog, who had just recently won re-election to the seat. However, Brog recently passed away due to cancer. He has served on the Lower Valley Energy Board of Directors for 37 years.
“Fred’s an institution and this was a religion to him,” commented Lower Valley Energy CEO Jim Webb during a live interview on SVI Radio. “His father was one of the founders of Lower Valley Energy. All that knowledge and institutional background is hard to replace. But the board does want to act quickly and fill the vacancy.”
According to Webb, the board will interview applicants on August 13 and select the new member. The selected candidate will fill the position until the next annual meeting which will take place in June of 2026. At that time a new election will be held, with the winner serving a two year term, which would be the remainder of the three year term Brog was just elected to.
