Lucky’s Place Animal Shelter is hosting their annual fundraiser Bark-B-Que on June 21 from 5:30-7:30 at the Star Valley Ranch RV Park in the Big Red Barn. All proceeds from the event go towards caring for homeless animals in the no-kill shelter.
Offered by the Animal Humane Association of Star Valley, Lucky’s Place is the hub of the valley’s animal rescue community. According to the AHASV Facebook page, the shelter “provides a safe environment for the lost, abandoned, and homeless animals of Star Valley.”
“This is our biggest event of the year,” said Marianne Ahrens, Director of the shelter. “This is where we make our money for the shelter. We are not subsidized by the government, so it’s only through events and donations that we survive.”
Every animal that is adopted from the facility is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and wormed before it leaves. Fees to adopt each animal only cover about 40 percent of the amount that the shelter invests in each animal for veterinary services and food. “So, we are not making anything on it. Whatever we can do to help subsidize the amount that goes towards their care is valuable.”
The event menu features pulled pork with baked beans, coleslaw, rolls and beverages that will be prepared by the shelter’s staff. Skilled bakers in the community are invited to donate desserts that will be available for purchase from the baked goods table.
Guests can also expect music for entertainment and dancing, as well as a silent auction and 50/50 raffle of goods and services donated by local and regional individuals and businesses.
Tickets are $25 for adults. Children are admitted for half price. For tickets, please call the shelter at 307-883-PETS. “We can get tickets to you, we can hold them for you or whatever works for you,” Ahrens offered. Bakers who wish to donate to the dessert table are also encouraged to contact the shelter.
“Look at your little pet at home, whether it’s a cat or a dog, and think of them as homeless,” she pleaded. “That’s what we are doing. We are trying to save all the homeless, unwanted animals. If you can come to help support us, you are not only helping the shelter, but you are helping the animals. If you can’t be there, at least buy a ticket to help support the shelter.”
