Merna, Wyo., August 10, 2024— The Merna Butte fire was reported in the early morning hours of August 10, 2024 on the Big Piney Ranger District off of the Horse Creek Road. The 35-acre fire is burning in heavy timber and dead and down fuels. Sublette County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating pre evacuation notices and utilizes the “Ready, Set, Go ” alert system. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Bridger-Teton National Forest firefighters have responded to the fire. There are currently 4 fire engines and several initial attack firefighters on scene. Air attack including an air tanker and 3 hand crews have been ordered.  There are no closures at this time but visitors are asked to avoid the area around Merna to allow for firefighters and equipment to move safely in the area.

There is an emergency road closure in effect for the #MernaButte fire. The Roberts Road is closed. Roberts Road is located off of the Daniel-Merna Road (CR-23-112). Firefighters are using the Horse Creek Road. (FS 10389) and everyone is asked to remain clear of that area.
