JACKSON (WNE) — An early morning fire claimed the life of Rollie Wells Knori, 28, a longtime Jackson resident and 2015 graduate of Jackson Hole High School.

Teton County officials are investigating the cause of Knori’s death with assistance from the Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The early Wednesday morning fire engulfed a 600-square-foot cabin on Sagebrush Drive, according to Jackson Hole fire officials. Knori was found deceased inside the cabin, which sits just off the main house on the property.

A Teton County sheriff’s deputy was the first person to arrive on scene around 2:23 a.m. The deputy attempted to rescue Knori but was blocked from entering the cabin by intense flames and heavy smoke.

Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Engine 11 arrived shortly after, at 2:29 a.m., and began fire suppression efforts while attempting a rescue.

Additional fire units arrived and assisted with containment, including engines, water tenders and ambulances from Fire/EMS Station 1 in Jackson, Station 2 in Wilson, Station 6 in Wilson (Moose-Wilson Road), Station 7 in Adams Canyon and the Grand Teton National Park station in Moose. There is no fire station in the neighborhood around Sagebrush Drive, but residents have lobbied for one.

By 2:36 a.m., Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Captain Austin Sessions reported the fire was controlled.

Fire/EMS, the sheriff’s office and the coroner’s office are investigating the fire and gathering information for a report. The report will be released when complete, according to the news release.
