A pilot from California lost his life on Thursday, July 4 after his plane crashed into the waters of Palisades Reservoir. Bonneville County Coroner Rick Taylor identified the pilot as 53-year-old Edan Shalev.
Shalev was participating in an air show near Alpine for the Independence Day Holiday when his plane lost control and dove into the reservoir. Boaters who witnessed the crashed rushed to the plane and pulled Shalev from the water, taking him to shore where they performed life saving measures until emergency responders arrived on scene.
Lincoln County Coroner Dain Schwab said Shalev was taken to Star Valley Health where he was pronounced deceased. Schwab said Shalev was from the Los Angeles, California area.
Shalev was the only occupant of the plane at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the FAA.
