• Wyoming issuing refunds, applications due June 2

Jerry Greenfield, Lincoln County Treasurer, recently joined the Weekday Wake-Up to discuss the state’s sponsorship of this year’s property tax refund program. According to Greenfield, “The state is sponsoring another year’s worth of property tax refund, and it’s about the same as it was last year in reality.”

To qualify for the refund, applicants must meet several criteria:

• Property Ownership: You must own the property.

• Tax Payment: Property taxes for 2024 must be paid.

• Residency: Applicants must have been Wyoming residents for at least five years.

• Occupancy: The home must be occupied for at least nine months out of the year.

• Income Limit: Household income must be under $129,529.

Applications are due by June 2nd and can be submitted at the county treasurer’s offices in either Kemmerer or Afton. Greenfield emphasizes that the application process is straightforward. “If you need help, don’t feel bad about calling us; we’re here to help,” he stated.

Public information meetings regarding the program will be announced soon.

It’s worth noting that while Lincoln County offered a similar program last year, they will not be running it this year. Greenfield expressed concern about the potential impact of the recent property tax cuts. “The county has no idea where any of the special districts will be after the 25% property tax cut and the 50% cut for the elderly. The ones that will be affected will be cemeteries, fire, city, county— all of those special districts will be negatively impacted.”

For more information, residents are encouraged to contact the Lincoln County Treasurer’s Office.
