Star Valley residents will once again come together to observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Thayne Community Center. A large turnout is hoped for. Previous years’ observances at the Fair Grounds brought together around 100 people.

Members of the Baha’i Faith in collaboration with the grass roots group Star Valley Common Ground will be hosting the event. The theme for the event is “To Be of Service.”  Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve.” People will have the opportunity to fill out cards pledging acts of service. It is hoped by the organizers that the acts of service will continue throughout the year, not just for one day. Ideas for volunteering will be presented. Service to one’s community develops bonds of fellowship and belonging.

In addition to the brief program, Star Valley Common Ground is hosting a free spaghetti lunch. Sharing a meal together builds community and a sense of belonging.

The program will include a power point about Barbara Rose Johns, and  informational posters about regional and national efforts for civil rights. To volunteer please call Dru Hanich, 883-5335.
