Seven local athletes qualify for Idaho High School State Finals Rodeo

• Held June 6-13 in Pocatello, ID

A handful of local high school rodeo athletes qualified to compete in the Idaho High School State Finals Rodeo, which will be held June 6-13 in Pocatello, Idaho. To qualify, high school students had to finish in the Top 6 of their respective event in Idaho District. The District Finals rodeo was held this past weekend in Montpelier, Idaho.

Locals who qualified for the state finals include:

• Bridget Scaffide, Alpine – Barrel Racing

• Zoey Mendenhall, Afton – Pole Bending

• Taylar Nate, Cokeville – Pole Bending

• Clay Teichert, Cokeville – Saddle Bronc & Bull Riding

• Ross Hilton, Afton & Kruz Smith, Montpelier – Team Roping

• Case Kerr & Ryder Kerr, Afton – Team Roping

• Ryder Kerr, Afton – Tie Down Roping

• Case Kerr, Afton – Tie Down Roping

In addition, Ryder Kerr finished third in District 8 in All Around.

The high school rodeo season begins in the fall and resumes in the spring. A total of 15 rodeos were held over the course of the season, including three during the district finals. Points were accumulated at each rodeo, with the top six qualifying for state. The top four of each event at state will qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo, which will be held July 19-25 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
