In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Star Valley Health (SVH) Auxiliary recently donated $7,300 to help create a temporary helipad for the Emergency Room in Alpine. This critical addition will enhance patient care and accessibility, particularly during emergencies. The Auxiliary also contributed $2,800 to replace drinking fountains at the Thayne and Afton physical therapy clinics with new bottle filler/drinking fountains. This upgrade not only promotes hydration for patients but also significantly reduces waste from paper cups.
The Auxiliary’s impressive donations were made possible through four main fundraising events held throughout the year. Among these were two successful Dinner and Bingo Nights, hosted in February and August, which brought the community together for a night of fun and camaraderie. Local businesses generously donated prizes, creating excitement and anticipation among participants.
One of the standout features of this year’s fundraising efforts was a raffle that offered three enticing prizes: a hand-crafted quilt, a selection of premium meat from The Block in Star Valley, and a six-month membership to Peak Fitness. The drawing for these prizes took place just last week, and the winners were thrilled to receive their rewards.
Additionally, the Auxiliary hosted a Card Party earlier this summer at the Thayne Senior Center, where participants could enjoy popular card games like Hand and Foot and Bridge. For a donation of $20, attendees played cards while enjoying lunch, all while supporting a good cause.
“We couldn’t have done it without the incredible support from local businesses,” said Mary Millar, President of the SVH Auxiliary. “They really came through for us, and we appreciate that so much.”
The Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts are complemented by revenue generated from the hospital’s gift shop, which offers a carefully curated selection of items for both hospital staff and visitors. This consistent income stream allows the Auxiliary to respond to various funding requests from hospital departments.
While the Auxiliary provided substantial funding for the helipad project, they are exploring the possibility of contributing additional funds in the future, thanks to the success of their recent bingo night.
In the spirit of collaboration and community, the SVH Auxiliary continues to inspire through its dedication to enhancing healthcare services and fostering connections among residents. Their efforts highlight the power of community involvement and the positive impact it can have on local health initiatives.
