This October, The Turning Point, Lincoln County’s Self-Help Center, invites the community to come together in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This annual event serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, and highlights the urgent need for resources and support.
The mission of The Turning Point is clear: to provide safety, support, and hope for those who have endured the turmoil of family violence. This year alone, The Turning Point has reached more than 140 clients in Lincoln County, offering essential services to individuals and families escaping abusive environments. Many clients arrive with limited resources, having faced financial abuse or isolation from their support systems. They come seeking not just safety, but also a path to rebuild their lives.
One powerful testimonial came from a client who shared her experience of leaving her abusive partner with nothing but her purse. “I felt invisible and hopeless until I found The Turning Point,” she recounted. “They provided me with compassion and the reassurance that I wasn’t alone.” With the support of donors, she has begun to reclaim her life and voice.
The Turning Point emphasizes that community support plays a crucial role in this journey. Donations directly translate into life-changing assistance for survivors. For example:
•$100 can provide emergency transportation or clothing for someone escaping an abusive situation.
•$500 covers several days of food and basic needs for a family in a shelter.
• $1,500 supplies essential items like food and diapers for a family during their stay.
•$2,500 aids in relocating a family or securing housing, facilitating a safe, independent life.
Donations can be made by mail to PO Box 64, Kemmerer, WY 83101, via Venmo @lcwyturningpoint, or in person at their Kemmerer location. For safety reasons, please call (307) 877-6834 for the address, as the location is private.
The Turning Point is currently accepting monetary donations only, allowing every dollar to go directly where it’s needed most—helping families escape violence, find safe housing, and rebuild their lives. There is no minimum donation; every contribution, big or small, is deeply appreciated.
This year, The Turning Point aims to raise $15,000 to meet the increasing needs of the community. With a growing population of survivors reaching out for help, your contributions make a real difference—funding relocation assistance, essential supplies, and support services that give families a chance to start over safely.
“Every contribution has a direct impact on the lives of survivors in our community. Your support can help turn a difficult moment into a safe and hopeful future for someone in need,” said Bobbie Orcutt, Executive Director.
As Domestic Violence Awareness Month unfolds, The Turning Point invites the community to stand in solidarity with survivors. Together, we can ensure that no one in Lincoln County faces abuse alone.
