Town of Alpine Mayor Eric Green called into the Weekday Wakeup on Wednesday, October 8 with his monthly report. Mayor Green recapped the Oct. 7 council meeting including a resolution calling for Lincoln County to stream it’s public meetings and an update of the progress of the charter school coming to Alpine.
Heading into this hour’s guest interview segment this morning on the Weekday Wake-Up at 8.35. (0:14) And the monthly report from the town of Alpine. (0:16) Mayor Eric Green joining me live over the phone this morning. (0:19) Good morning, Mayor.
(0:21) How’s things in Alpine today on a crisp October morning? (0:25) Yeah, it’s great. (0:26) Thanks for having me, Duke. (0:29) Yeah, the leaves are changing and starting to fall.
(0:32) And I think the weather’s turning colder. (0:36) So, you know, I don’t want to say it too soon. (0:39) But winter might be upon us soon.
(0:42) Oh, you said it first, not me. (0:43) You said it first. (0:45) Well, Mayor, as always, appreciate your time.
(0:47) Sounds like a busy council meeting last night with some resolutions and some assignments (0:52) and things that took place. (0:54) Let’s summarize how things went last night. (0:56) What would you like to report on? (0:59) Well, a lot of it was just kind of some bookkeeping stuff.
(1:03) We at the town of Alpine have the availability to appoint a member to the charter school (1:13) foundation board. (1:15) And so we did that last night. (1:18) And just a few other bookkeeping things.
(1:22) But in general, I think one of the biggest things that came out of the meeting was a (1:27) resolution we passed encouraging Lincoln County to live stream their commissioner meetings (1:35) every month. (1:37) And I think it came from just kind of not really knowing what’s going on down in Kemmer (1:46) at those meetings. (1:47) And just transparency, to me, is really important.
(1:52) And it’s something that I’ve been preaching since I became mayor. (1:56) And it’s really not that difficult to do. (1:58) So that resolution passed.
(2:02) And we’re encouraging the other municipalities to pass a similar resolution encouraging them (2:10) to live stream their meetings. (2:12) Now, I did see the town of Thane has put together a resolution still to be voted on. (2:17) But the resolution’s put together for the town of Thane.
(2:20) And just to clarify, you’re not talking because you can watch the Kemmer meetings from the (2:26) Afton County building, but you’re talking more of a public broadcast that’s available (2:30) for anyone, anywhere, anytime, right? (2:32) That’s exactly right. (2:34) Yeah, at the town of Alpine, we live stream all of our meetings on YouTube. (2:39) I think to be more exact, I think it goes on our Facebook page as well.
(2:44) But everything is kind of based on the YouTube. (2:47) And it’s really not that difficult to do. (2:49) And the premise, obviously, is Lincoln County is such a huge county.
(2:54) And it takes two hours for us to get to Kemmer from Alpine. (2:59) And it’s just not realistic for us to be able to attend all the meetings, obviously. (3:05) Or even if we don’t have the opportunity just to watch the recap of the meeting, (3:13) we don’t really know what’s going on.
(3:15) So it’s kind of a real easy thing to put into place. (3:21) And I think it would make a huge impact for the citizens in Lincoln County. (3:27) The town of Alpine, Mayor Eric Green, this morning on the weekday wake up, (3:32) you brought up the charter school.
(3:33) And it sounds like, I believe, since we last talked, it has officially been approved as (3:38) far as the location and things like that, correct? (3:42) That’s correct. (3:43) Yeah, they’re actually, quote unquote, breaking ground. (3:48) They’re starting to move some dirt around.
(3:49) I think that the building permit that they are required to have (3:53) is coming within the next few days. (3:56) But yeah, you should see some action over there behind the firehouse in Alpine. (4:03) That’s the location for the new charter school.
(4:07) And yeah, looking forward to that new possibility for students in our area. (4:16) And yeah, the school, their plan is to start to do landscaping or moving, (4:24) excavating, moving dirt around, and then getting the foundations built for the four (4:31) temporary buildings and have those in place before the snow flies if they can. (4:36) Yeah.
(4:37) And I have seen some people mention some concerns about the buildings. (4:40) And as you said, those are just temporary. (4:42) That’s not going to be the long-term structure, correct? (4:46) Absolutely.
(4:47) Yeah, they’re temporary buildings. (4:49) I’ve heard the same concerns about the building. (4:52) People throwing out there mold and things like that.
(4:57) I mean, these were school buildings for kids up till now. (5:02) And everyone’s looked at the buildings. (5:05) When they get installed, they’re going to be inspected by our local building officials.
(5:12) The state has to inspect them. (5:14) So we have no concerns that children’s safety will be at risk by attending school in these (5:23) buildings. (5:24) Now, also the charter board, tell us what school they’re hoping to bring in because (5:28) originally it was American Preparatory Academy.
(5:30) But it sounds like that’s been changed and it’s going to be a different school, correct? (5:34) That’s correct. (5:35) And that would be a question for the school board because I don’t have a lot of specifics (5:40) on which curriculum they have chosen. (5:44) But they have gone away from American Preparatory.
(5:47) And my kind of high level is the new organization is probably even a larger organization and (5:58) has a great curriculum. (6:00) So if anyone out there has questions about it, you can go to the website for the charter (6:08) board for the charter school and learn more about that company. (6:13) Town of Alpine, Mayor Eric Green this morning on the weekday.
(6:15) Wake up, Mayor. (6:16) Anything else happening in Alpine you’d like to mention today? (6:20) I have heard some rumblings about a cleanup on the Palisades. (6:26) I think it’s this weekend.
(6:27) Yeah. (6:28) And I don’t really have too much information on it. (6:31) But if anyone’s interested in getting involved, maybe even call the Town of Alpine town hall (6:39) or look for some more information.
(6:42) But there’s a group of people that are going to clean up specifically kind of the area (6:47) around Palisades, the Bureau of Reclamation area. (6:52) And yeah, I think that’ll be a good event and hopefully a bunch of people come out to (6:57) help. (6:58) Yeah.
(6:58) It is this Saturday. (6:59) We do have some information on the SBI Alpine Facebook page for those that want to find (7:04) it there. (7:05) Starts at noon near Melvin Brewing, and they’re going to have a nice raffle actually for those (7:09) that show up and help.
(7:10) So that happens this upcoming Saturday. (7:14) Mayor, as always, it’s a pleasure. (7:16) Thank you for the updates.
(7:18) Absolutely. (7:18) Thanks, Duke. (7:19) It’s the weekday.
(7:20) Wake up this morning in Town of Alpine, Mayor Eric Green on SBI radio.
