Robert King, Director of the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Maggon Osmond with S4K Connects both stepped into the SVI Radio studio on Wednesday, March 11 to promote the upcoming Lunch n’ Learn. The event, which also features Ben Olivas and Randy Thompson, will take place on Wednesday, March 18 at 12:00 noon. A free lunch from 225 BBQ will be provided. Attendees are asked to please RSVP by clicking here to fill and filling out the Google Form.

(0:00) And it’s the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce (0:02) joining me live in studio today, (0:04) Robert King, Chamber Director, (0:06) as well as Megan Osmond in the studio this morning. (0:10) Rob, Robert, Bob, yeah, how do we do that? (0:13) Megan, good morning, how are you guys doing today? (0:16) Good morning. (0:16) Well, good morning.

(0:18) Appreciate your time as always, (0:20) and the Lunch and Learn with the Star Valley Chamber (0:23) a week from today. (0:24) You know, Robert, when you started to really put emphasis (0:27) on bringing the Chamber of Commerce back (0:29) and making it a part of the community, (0:31) Lunch and Learns were a part of that, (0:33) and Megan was on your radar from the very beginning, (0:36) if I remember correctly, (0:37) to have her be a presenter, correct? (0:39) Oh, for sure. (0:40) You know, you have such a dynamic person there.

(0:44) Try not to embarrass me. (0:46) But we have such great talent within the Valley, (0:50) and this is just one of those things (0:52) that I think will be a great add for the community. (0:56) And Megan, I sure appreciate all that you do, (0:58) and working with us on this.

(1:01) And if you’d like to just talk a little bit (1:03) about what’s gonna happen in that Lunch and Learn, (1:05) I’d appreciate it. (1:06) Yeah, no problem. (1:08) Like you said, we do have great people in this Valley, (1:12) and I think the greatest thing (1:13) about this Chamber of Commerce (1:14) is that it is really trying to take the talent (1:17) that’s already here and help our businesses grow, (1:21) and help our communities thrive and kind of pull together.

(1:24) So that’s what this Chamber of Commerce really is about. (1:27) It is for small businesses and medium-sized businesses. (1:31) It’s for all businesses.

(1:32) And really, there’s going to be two presenters. (1:35) I’m going to be one of them, (1:37) and my presentation is called Resilient by Design. (1:40) It takes a lot of, I’ve been on this radio show before (1:43) because I work for the nonprofit Stand for Kind, (1:47) and we do this work inside schools.

(1:50) But my job with, or one of my responsibilities (1:53) with this company is to bring the messaging (1:56) and the help and the ability to pull together (1:59) as a community all together for adults. (2:04) So we are actually taking that curriculum. (2:07) You can call it curriculum if you’re an educator, (2:09) or you can just talk about how we bring those resources (2:13) to businesses to really help (2:14) with the human relations aspect of it.

(2:17) So this Resilient by Design (2:19) is really all about helping business owners say, (2:23) like, how do I help my people? (2:25) You know, when you’re a small business owner, (2:28) it’s about products and services, (2:30) but it’s mostly about people. (2:33) And so what do we do today to really build our people (2:37) and thus build our business? (2:40) And so by the time you’re finished (2:42) with this Chamber of Commerce next Wednesday, (2:45) you will have tools in your tool belt (2:48) to go back to your place of business and say, (2:51) I know how to solve this problem now. (2:53) The second part of this is Ben Olivas, (2:56) and I worked with him at the school (2:58) before I left the school district, (3:00) and he is awesome and brilliant, (3:02) and he’s gonna bring this AI discussion (3:06) to this Chamber of Commerce as well.

(3:08) So he is going to teach and bring tools (3:11) about how to use AI in your business to really advance it. (3:15) And so we’re really excited to have him as well. (3:17) And he’s gonna be joined with Randy Thompson, (3:19) if I’m correct, yep? (3:21) Yes, yes, yes, Ben and Randy, uh-huh.

(3:22) Excellent, so those are some three pretty powerful hitters, (3:26) if you will, in this category. (3:28) And if you’re a business owner thinking, (3:30) man, how am I gonna both manage my team moving forward? (3:33) And I mean, the whole AI conversation, (3:35) everybody is trying to figure this out as we go. (3:38) And so this really is a great opportunity (3:40) to kind of learn all of it in one setting.

(3:43) Yes, yes, I think you’re gonna walk away (3:45) from that having some real tools to use (3:49) to actually go home and find solutions that day. (3:52) Absolutely, so this is happening a week from today (3:54) is Wednesday, March 18th, 12 o’clock noon (3:57) at the Afton Civic Center. (3:59) There is some registration details (4:01) at starbodychamber.com. (4:03) There’s a Google form that you can fill out to RSVP.

(4:07) And Bob, I know you’re hoping to get some RSVPs (4:10) because on top of all the great stuff Megan talked about, (4:13) you’re gonna feed us some pretty good food, yeah? (4:16) Exactly, we’ve got things lined up (4:18) with 225 Barbecue. (4:20) They’ll have some things there for us, (4:22) but if you’ll sign up using that (4:24) or give us a call so we know how many to expect, (4:27) that would be really great. (4:28) So you get a free lunch from 225 (4:30) and you get all the things that Megan talked about (4:32) on top of it.

(4:33) So the Lunch and Learn (4:34) with the Starbody Chamber of Commerce (4:35) this upcoming Wednesday, March 18th. (4:39) And again, the RSVP details (4:42) can be found at starbodychamber.com. (4:45) Megan, when you talk about what you do, (4:47) I know you’ve seen real-life applications to this, (4:49) both in the schools, but also in the workplace. (4:53) This is something that you’ve already seen results.

(4:55) It’s something that you know works. (4:56) Yes, I actually presented down last month (5:00) at Thanksgiving Point this same topic. (5:04) It’s called Resilient by Design (5:05) and it actually identifies eight pressure points (5:10) in any workplace that you can identify (5:13) as being the problem (5:14) and then you can find the solution to it.

(5:16) And so we offer those solutions as well. (5:18) At that Thanksgiving Point presentation, (5:20) it was amazing how well it landed. (5:24) So I had so many businesses come up to me afterwards (5:27) and just say, this is what’s happening.

(5:29) And a lot of it, Duke, (5:30) is a lot of the workforce issues where, (5:33) and I hate to say issues, (5:34) but just changes that we’re seeing in the Gen Z workforce. (5:39) And so it’s taking our processes and systems (5:44) in a direction that we’re not all familiar with. (5:48) And so that was the most of the questions (5:50) and conversations that I’ve had.

(5:52) It’s just like, how do I do this with Gen Z? (5:55) And where I have worked with the schools, (5:58) it’s a natural transition or bridge into the workplace. (6:03) And so we were able to really pinpoint the issues (6:08) and then solve problems with this right inside businesses (6:11) because it really is about people. (6:13) And when you can solve the people problem, (6:15) you can solve a lot of problems.

(6:17) Oh, no doubt. (6:18) That’s Megan Osman, resilient by design, (6:20) presenting at the Lunch & Learn next week (6:21) with the Star Valley Chamber. (6:22) She’ll be joined with Ben Elivas and Randy Thompson (6:25) doing practical AI strategies as well (6:28) for the current business environment.

(6:29) So Megan, if you could maybe put a bow on this whole thing, (6:33) why should people come to the Lunch & Learn next week (6:35) to hear from you, Ben and Randy? (6:39) I think if you are a business owner (6:41) and are struggling to manage all the things, (6:45) when you’re a small business owner, you wear all the hats. (6:47) You usually don’t have a human resource department. (6:50) You usually don’t have a payroll department.

(6:52) You usually don’t have a lot of things. (6:54) And in a place like Lincoln County (6:55) and Star Valley particularly, we wear all those hats (6:59) and we have to be really proficient at it. (7:02) And so I’m gonna just wrap right back around (7:05) to what Bob talked about in the beginning.

(7:07) We have a lot of talent right here in this valley. (7:09) And the great thing about this valley (7:11) is we like to pull together when we are in trouble (7:14) and when we need help. (7:15) So use this opportunity to get there (7:18) and partake of not only great food, (7:22) but also information that’s gonna help (7:24) this community pull together (7:26) to make it better for our businesses as well.

(7:29) It’s this upcoming Wednesday, (7:30) the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce Lunch & Learn, (7:32) March 18th, 12 o’clock noon at the Afton Civic Center, (7:35) free lunch from 225 BBQ. (7:37) And you can RSVP, find those details (7:39) at starvalleychamber.com. (7:41) Megan, thank you so much for coming in today. (7:43) Really looking forward to this.

(7:45) Bob, anything else happening in the chamber (7:47) that you’d like to mention today? (7:48) I’d just like to reinforce what Megan said (7:50) and reinforce the fact that we’re gonna continue (7:53) to have these Lunch & Learns every month (7:55) and try to help our small businesses (7:58) as well as our communities (7:59) with the talent that we have locally. (8:01) Absolutely, that’s Robert King, (8:03) Director of the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce (8:04) and Megan Osmond with Resilient by Design. (8:06) It’s the Weekday Wake Up on SVI Radio.
