(0:00) Joining me live in studio now this morning is Char Perry, director of the Star Valley 4-H club. (0:05) Char, good morning. How are you doing today? Good morning.
Thank you. Absolutely. Appreciate (0:10) you stepping in studio today to talk Star Valley 4-H.
Of course, an exciting time of year. For (0:14) years, the 4-H has hosted a Halloween carnival, a festival, and doing so again this year, right? Tell (0:20) us about it. Yes.
So we’re super excited to bring it again. We are going to do it next Monday, (0:25) the 26th. The doors will open at 5 p.m. It is our fundraiser, so we don’t have to charge kids (0:32) to join 4-H.
There’s enough expenses in 4-H as it is. So we use this money to pay our state dues (0:38) and our insurance fees for our program up here. So it’s a very vital part of our program.
(0:45) Absolutely. And it’s still, even with that in mind, it’s extremely affordable to attend and (0:50) be part of. That’s the best part about it.
We try. We try. There’s a couple free things.
You (0:55) get a free book when you come. We’re trying to promote literacy too. And we do.
We know it’s (1:00) a family event. We know things are tight, and so we try to make it as affordable as possible. (1:04) Absolutely.
So it will be Monday, this upcoming Monday, as you said, at the Lincoln County (1:08) Fairgrounds South Exhibit Building, right? Yes. And 5 to 8 p.m., you always have all kinds of (1:13) different booths. And tell us what happens inside.
Yes. So we try to add new things every year. (1:20) We’re going to have our dunk tank again.
That was a huge hit last year. We’re going to have (1:25) the oldies, the darts, and the cakewalk, and things like that. But we’ve got a couple new (1:30) ones coming up, and it should be lots of fun.
Perfect. So don’t miss it this upcoming Monday, (1:35) Lincoln County Fairgrounds, 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets just a dollar each to play the games (1:39) and enjoy the food and the prizes as well. Char, you do some amazing things.
I’m assuming though (1:45) that even as good as you are, you’ve had help pulling this off, right? Yes. There is no way (1:48) I could do it without all of our leaders and our club members. And each club takes one booth, (1:54) and they do it themselves.
So yes, definitely can’t take the credit for this one. It’s a (1:59) community event to put it on for sure. Perfect.
So don’t miss it this upcoming Monday at the (2:03) Lincoln County Fairgrounds. And as you mentioned, all for a good cause, all the proceeds go to help (2:08) pay some of those state fees and other things so the kids, when they join 4-H, don’t have to do (2:13) that. Which by the way, joining 4-H, now’s the time to start doing that, right? Yes, exactly.
(2:18) So our new year started October 1st, so kids can start enrolling. And some of our clubs are going, (2:26) will start usually in January. We have a new robotic club that’s going to start actually (2:31) November.
So if there’s some kids that want to learn some Lego robotics, we’re definitely (2:37) accepting new members for that program. Very cool, very cool. So you enroll now for the clubs (2:44) throughout the year.
So even like the horsemanship and that kind of stuff, you enroll now, right? (2:48) Yes, yep. You enroll now. Some of the clubs will, like horse, they’ll meet during the winter and do (2:53) book work where we can’t ride in the arena when there’s snow.
So yeah, definitely some clubs have (2:57) deadlines. Some have a number limit for safety reasons. So it just kind of depends on the club (3:04) and the different situations.
But enrollment time is now. Perfect. How does someone enroll? (3:08) So they can call our office, 307-885-3132, or they can get on our ZSuite.
It’s 4h.zsuite.org (3:18) and sign up through that way. Most, if you’re new to the program, it’s best to call us first so we (3:23) can talk about finding the right club and the right fit for that family. Is enrollment open (3:29) until it’s full or is there a hard cutoff? So, good question.
Animals has a hard cutoff, the dates, (3:35) because they have to be owned and tagged by certain dates. Like I said earlier, some clubs (3:40) can close them for safety reasons with numbers and dates, but the 4-H in Wyoming has an open (3:48) enrollment. So you can enroll anytime, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to be able (3:52) to do the project that you want to do.
Gotcha. Char, you mentioned the new one (3:56) this year with the Lego Robotics, which I’ll be honest, I might be joining myself. I might be (4:05) too.
Definitely. So with all that in mind, how many clubs and programs does the Star Valley 4-H (4:14) offer? Because it continues to grow every year. Yeah.
So you know what? That’s the fun thing (4:18) about 4-H. 4-H is learn by doing and you imagine basically 4-H can do it, as long as I can find a (4:25) volunteer leader to help with it. And it’s not just animals.
Everybody thinks animals because (4:30) that’s what we see mostly at the fair. But yeah, like our new robotics, we have shooting sports, (4:34) we have so many different programs out there for the kids to do. Whatever their interest is, (4:40) I think they can find it in the local 4-H.
Definitely. So give us that website one more (4:44) time to go see all the programs. Yep.
So it’s 4-H.zsuite.org. (4:51) All right. 4-H.zsuite.org. Get signed up now. Enrollment is open.
And again, remind us about (4:57) the festival this upcoming Monday. Yes. So Monday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the (5:01) South Exhibit Building.
We’re going to have a fun Halloween (5:05) festival for the families. So bring the family out and come join us. (5:08) Perfect.
That’s Char Perry with the Star Valley 4-H Club. It’s all part of the (5:12) weekday wake up this morning on the SVI Radio Network.
