Mayor Eric Green from the Town of Alpine called into SVI Radio’s Weekday Wake-up on Wednesday, August 6 for his monthly report. Mayor Green recapped the August 5 town council meeting and discussed a handful of upcoming events taking place in August and September in Alpine.

(0:00) Joining me live over the phone for his monthly report from the town of Alpine, (0:04) that’s Alpine Mayor Eric Green. Good morning, Mayor Green. How are you today? (0:09) Doing well, Duke.
Thanks for having me on. (0:12) Absolutely, absolutely. I understand Town Council, of course, met again last night for (0:16) the regular council meeting and a lot of water discussion from what I understand, right? (0:22) Exactly, yeah.
Of course, our utilities are probably the most important thing that (0:29) we work on a weekly, monthly, yearly basis. All municipalities are like that. And of course, (0:37) we’re always trying to improve the utilities and the experience for our customers.
And (0:46) yeah, just trying to close some gaps that we have. But the most important thing is we’re (0:51) trying to get grant money to go tie in well number four, which is also called the mega well, (1:00) which will really help us. As you know, we had an issue early in the summer with a main break.
(1:07) And if we would have had this well tied in, it would have been a lot smaller impact to the (1:14) residents in the town of Alpine. So it’s real important. Is this a well that’s already been (1:19) dug then and you’re just trying to tie it into the system? Or how does that work? (1:23) Exactly, yeah.
It was dug probably over 10 years ago. And it’s a very good well. It has great (1:33) water, great flow.
And we acquired it when we took over the Northstar Utility a few years back. (1:44) And yeah, getting it tied in is not that difficult. It just takes money.
It’s one of (1:51) those things, you know. So you mentioned you’re applying for some grant money to help finance that. (1:57) Is there maybe a timeline per se of when you hope to have a yes or no on the grant and when (2:03) work may proceed? Or is that still up in the air? I think so.
We’re going from the State (2:09) Water Commission. We’ll have that application in by the end of this month. And then we should have (2:15) an idea on whether we get approved sometime in November.
And then our plan is to go in front of (2:24) the State Lands and Investment Board, the SLID Board, for the rest of the funding. Because this (2:30) Water Commission will only fund up to 50%. So we’ll have to find another 50% somewhere.
And (2:36) the SLID Board would be our next best option for sure. (2:44) Alpine Mayor Eric Green this morning on the Weekday Wakeup. Mayor Green, (2:47) anything else discussed last night in Town Council that you’d like to report on today? (2:52) Nothing super important.
It was probably one of our shortest meetings we’ve had in (2:57) the last year. So it was nice reprieve to have a little bit of a short meeting. But there was just (3:05) discussions on some other business that we were doing.
You know, some items that (3:12) weren’t budgeted for that we basically signed off to say, yeah, we’re going to spend the money on (3:17) that. But all in all, it was a pretty short meeting. Well, of course, we hit the month of August.
And (3:22) so those summertime events starting to wind down. It seemed like once again, the Music in the Park (3:29) event for the Town of Alpine was very well attended. And it seemed like that continues (3:35) to just grow and grow, maybe heading into next year, right? (3:39) Absolutely.
We’re so excited about that opportunity, Music in the Mountains. (3:43) Many of your listeners know that Farmers Market throughout the summer is on Thursday nights in (3:49) Alpine. And we had, I think it was five or six concerts this summer.
And it’s been wound down (3:59) now. No more concerts, but for Music in the Mountains. But it was hugely successful.
And we (4:06) just think it’s a great community event to bring people together. Anything coming up on the horizon (4:12) that the town is preparing for or are getting ready for in the future? Absolutely. So on the (4:18) 16th, next weekend in Alpine is kind of a big weekend.
We have the Alpine Car Show, (4:25) which is hosted by Top of the Rockies. And if anyone is interested in participating, (4:31) I think you can go to our website and figure out exactly how to apply to attend, (4:39) to have your car in the show. But that’s always a big event for us.
And then we also have the (4:44) Starr Valley Street Market next Saturday, which is going to have a bunch of vendors at it. (4:51) And then the third big event is the second annual Alpine Arts Festival hosted by the (4:58) Starr Valley Arts Council. So we’re excited about those three events.
So definitely come to Alpine (5:05) next weekend. And there’s a lot going on. So you should have plenty of options of things to (5:12) spend your time on.
It’s the town of Alpine. Mayor Eric Green this morning on the Weekday (5:16) Wakeup. Mayor Green, appreciate your time.
Anything we missed that you wanted to mention today? (5:20) Well, I would also say just one other thing. Although the Music in the Mountains is over for (5:26) the summer, there’s a kind of a large event in Alpine this fall. On September 5th is the Reggae (5:33) in the Rockies concert at the, I think it’s at the 4-H.
Yeah, it’s at the 4-H Ranch in Alpine. (5:43) And you can go to reggaintherockies.com to get your tickets. But another opportunity to have (5:50) live music in the valley.
And we think it’s going to be a great event. So if you are interested, (5:59) please go check out Reggae in the Rockies. I’ve spoken with Dave a few times from (6:04) Gray Bear Productions who puts on this event and man, they do a good job.
It’s just, it’s so unique (6:10) and I love the atmosphere and everything about it. It’s a really cool event. Absolutely love it.
(6:15) Yeah, so definitely go out there and get your tickets and look forward to having another (6:20) great event. All right, that’s Mayor Eric Green from the town of Alpine. Mayor Green, appreciate (6:23) it.
We’ll talk soon. Thanks, Duke. Bye.
It’s all part of the Weekday Wakeup this morning on SBI (6:28) Radio.
