Dry conditions have contributed to the overall fire danger which is listed as High for the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Two new fires are now being battled with one near Greys River and the other near Big Piney.
The Man Peak Fire was reported on Tuesday, July 1, in the vicinity of Man Peak at around 9,000 feet of elevation. Located just off of the Greys River above the Moose Flat campground, the fire is small at just one-tenth of an acre. Officials with the Bridger-Teton state that smoke may be visible and there is no need to report. No cause of this fire has been determined.
A second fire, titled the Pine Grove Fire, was also reported on July 1 and is located off Pine Grove Ridge Road approximately two miles from Deadline Ridge. This is roughly ten miles southwest of Big Piney. This fire is estimated at three acres and is so far requiring firefighters to hike into the area as there are no roads. Forest officials feel this is a very high-spread potential fire as it is burning in heavy, dead and down spruce and fir trees. A pair of helicopters are on the scene. No cause of the Pine Grove Fire has been determined.
Officials also remind the public that drones are prohibited in areas where firefighting efforts are being staged as they cannot share the airspace due to a collision risk.
