A Utah man died on Saturday evening after being booked into the Lincoln County Justice Center. According to Lincoln County Sheriff Shane Johnson, the man, identified as Tyson J. Alvares, 38, from Smithfield, Utah, was attending the Oyster Ridge Music Festival in Kemmerer.

Sheriff Johnson stated that Alvares was arrested by the Kemmerer Police Department for possession of a controlled substance, breaking of the peace, and disorderly conduct. During the interaction, Alvares had reportedly spit on an officer. He admitted to using a controlled substance and his behavior was very erratic. According to Sheriff Johnson, Alvares was seen by EMT’s and cleared before being transported to the jail, arriving at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Alvares was in the process of being booked when he collapsed in a holding cell. Detention officers noticed that he was not breathing and started life saving measures. Despite those efforts, Alvares was not able to be revived.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was called to investigate the death.
